My name is Hammad Iqbal and I am a professional photographer and creative consultant based in Doha, Qatar since 1998. My 17 years of working in the advertising and design business helped me accumulate knowledge in a variety of art disciplines, out of which photography is what I love the most.
I began my journey into the world of photography back in my school days in 1997 with the IS-200, an all-in-one zoom camera from Olympus. A few years later I bought my first SLR camera, a Nikon F80, which I had the pleasure of using professionally in 2000. Shooting with film trained me to look at composition, lighting and framing critically to avoid losing exposures.
Working as a graphic designer strengthened my understanding of composition principles. And when I switched to a digital camera, all that experience came together, enabling me to create some of the most striking cityscape images of Doha.
My Doha cityscapes gained exposure quickly and landed me a special feature “This is Qatar by Hammad Iqbal” in Doha News, one of the most trusted news portals in Qatar. And months later, my Milky Way shots that I captured in the desert of Qatar put me in the spotlight again. Since then I have been hooked to shooting the Milky Way which has, in a way, made me an authority on the subject in Qatar.
I love to share my knowledge with others and “HI Blog” is a platform for me to do that. From devising a new Photoshop technique for creating single-image star trails to shooting striking Milky Way self-portraits, I have authored articles for Digital Photography School and ISO 500px blog.
