Desert Portraits

Having spent most of my life in Qatar, the desert has always attracted me. A few years ago in 2018, I had an idea to photograph it at night. The beauty of the sand dunes under the stars is breathtaking but it is totally invisible to the naked eye. And that is what I wanted to capture. Therefore, since its initiation, I have visited the desert many times. Desert Portraits has become an ongoing project. I am regularly updating it with more additions as I come across interesting elements in the outskirts.

Behind the Scenes

Carrying photography gear, climbing, and moving around on a sand dune in total darkness is challenging. And then, finding a good composition, and making sure the camera focuses where you want it to are some of the many obstacles that I had to face when doing this series. With good planning and prep, and with the help of my friends, I was able to pull it off.

Special Thanks

Behind every milestone and achievement, there is always someone whose contribution is vital to its success. For Desert Portraits, I would like to convey special thanks to my friends, Asif Nadeem (not pictured here), Hazem AlShakr, and Tajammal Hussain, without whom I would not have been able to bring this idea to reality.
